lyrics
I'll make a move to the left lane
And you can stay in the right
Your onion breathing will
Keep me up all night
On the couch
Shedding tears
Crying for clean air
I know forever
Better than you
The thoughts I'm thinking now
Are gonna break on through
To the other side
Of the door
Into your ear
Dream that dream a little longer
On your back
Crossing at your legs
Indeed a nightmare is waiting on the floor
Under our bed
Oh, we both know lines are being read
Can't you see there's still time
So fuck you
Fuck you
Deaf for the night
Gone in the ears
How does your song ring out
So clear
Doe my dear
When we're together
Who can avoid
Staring frightful-eyed
As the wild voice
Of your mother's child
Is calling out
Like the end is near
Dream that dream a little longer
On your back
Crossing at your legs
Indeed a nightmare is waiting on the floor
Under our bed
Oh, we both know lines are being read
Can't you see there's still time
So fuck you
Fuck you

It may not be a full-fledged LP, but All Delighted People is probably my favourite of Sufjan's works. Without an overaching album theme to tie the songs together, it felt like Sufjan was free to experiment on each track and give them their own unique sound. And because of that (and Sufjan's talent), every track on there is a standout track. Angkasawan
Introspective, homespun folk tunes from John Donne that feel informed by the sugary bleakness of '80s and '90s indie pop. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 1, 2023
