lyrics
Kick me crow I'm an incandescent bulb
Roll me down the road and crack my skull
Hold me close and pour the powder in
We can forget everything
Though he don't know how or why
He knew that he was safe
Hidden from the eyes that wait outside
And if the door blew open wide
He wouldn't move his head
He'd sit and wait for them to come instead
There's one thing I don't know
That's why that wind won't blow
What was lost in the pentecostal church was just a watch
That the holy spirit found and wouldn't give back
Though he begged and pleaded for it he would find in time
That the ticking parasite lived in his mind
If the money's running low
The phone ain't far away
That same old story always makes 'em pay
But calling home for another loan
He found the line was dead
The pig upon the cow was dressed in red

It may not be a full-fledged LP, but All Delighted People is probably my favourite of Sufjan's works. Without an overaching album theme to tie the songs together, it felt like Sufjan was free to experiment on each track and give them their own unique sound. And because of that (and Sufjan's talent), every track on there is a standout track. Angkasawan
Introspective, homespun folk tunes from John Donne that feel informed by the sugary bleakness of '80s and '90s indie pop. Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 1, 2023
